Yep, I'd bet the farm that that's Jimmy! Nobody else played like that back then, with that expression and feeling. (Though Dicky Overby and John Hughey could have come close, in their later years.) And since that song was recorded back in the '60s, it ain't Ron Elliot, either. No way, no how.

Yes, I was lucky enough to hear Ron play with Jack on the Opry countless times back in the day.

On the "There Goes My Everything" album Drake played on the hit title song but Buddy Charleton played on a lot of the other tracks (Jack had been a "Texas Troubadour" with Charleton for many years before that song hit and made him a solo star).

I remember being at Ray Praskies` Esquire Ballroom in Houston, TX., one night in the late 1960`s. Jack was just starting and did not have a band at that time. It was announced at that time by Jimmy Dryer, whose band was the house band for the Esquire Ballroom, that as of 2 weeks his band was going to join Jack Green and called the Jolley Green Giants. As I remember, Jimmy Dryer, who played fiddle and sang, was the front man in his band until they disbanded. I do not remember who was playing the steel in Jimmy Dryer`s band at that time.
