Jack Greene and Jimmy Day
I’ve always loved this Jack Greene cut of I love you because. I guessing that it’s Day on steel.

Yep, I'd bet the farm that that's Jimmy! Nobody else played like that back then, with that expression and feeling. (Though Dicky Overby and John Hughey could have come close, in their later years.) And since that song was recorded back in the '60s, it ain't Ron Elliot, either. No way, no how.Pete Finney wrote:Sure sounds like Jimmy Day to me too, though a lot of the comments on youtube swear it's Ron Elliot. Whoever it is, thanks for posting, that's so good
And wow, that simple moving harmony @ 1:58 is just soooo nice!

I just pulled out my live recording of Jimmy Day playing this song.
I would bet my right hand that Jimmy is on Jack's recording.

Yes, I was lucky enough to hear Ron play with Jack on the Opry countless times back in the day.Ron and Pete, you are probably aware than Ron played quite a while for Jack Greene.
On the "There Goes My Everything" album Drake played on the hit title song but Buddy Charleton played on a lot of the other tracks (Jack had been a "Texas Troubadour" with Charleton for many years before that song hit and made him a solo star).

I remember being at Ray Praskies` Esquire Ballroom in Houston, TX., one night in the late 1960`s. Jack was just starting and did not have a band at that time. It was announced at that time by Jimmy Dryer, whose band was the house band for the Esquire Ballroom, that as of 2 weeks his band was going to join Jack Green and called the Jolley Green Giants. As I remember, Jimmy Dryer, who played fiddle and sang, was the front man in his band until they disbanded. I do not remember who was playing the steel in Jimmy Dryer`s band at that time.

The tone and phrasing speaks Jimmy Day. No one else had it then - or since!

Greene and Day
When I grow up, I want play and sing like these two men. Jack Greene has always been one of my favorite vocalist and Jimmy Day was equally as great on the psg.
