At one time Fred Newell was an "In man " for session work.\ on the guitar. For a while he was Weylons Steel player,At one time I wasn't impressed with his Steel playing,I am now.The Opry was pretty good and ballanced tonight. It was nice to see Leon playing with a smile again and he took a pretty good rip on that guitar. Attn. Pete Fisher:Who is washed up?.Porter shows some class or good judgement. He can only sound better with that band. Good Opry three weeks in a row.

I think Porter's opening tune was the best thing of the whole televised portion. Leon did his usual great job he's smoother'n silk. I noticed ol' Fred Newell had his E9th neck on the inside. I wonder if he likes the way Chalker set his up or Ralph Mooney. Either way he's really improved a lot from the first time I heard him. I liked those band shirts too! As for the rest of the show, I liked Trace Adkins rendition of "Poor Wayfarin' Stranger". His voice really fits that kind of tune and Claire Lynch is great. But Mark Wills was just the usual normal everybody sounds alike stuff you're getting out of Nashville these days. I did like his recording of "Wish You Were Here" though. I wish he'd done it instead of the new stuff!

No gig Saturday nite so I tuned in WSM on the AM radio. Due to good ionospheric skip conditions it really came in clear up here in Michigan. I echo the sentiments of Mike and Joe. This was maybe the best opry show I've heard since the first of the year, and last week's was good also. I notice that Porter has been doing that tune "Daddy's Old Sayings and Mama's Beliefs" a lot lately--great song and it grows on you over time. Wonder if it's available thru ET Record Shop?
