No big excitement but a well balanced evening.
It was good to see Trace Atkins do a folk hymn.

Clare Lynch is proof bluegrass is doing well.

Mark Will's still usees the bland trends of the day as he gets his second gold album

I enjoyed it all tonight. It was nice to see Leon Rhodes in Porter's band. Image

Who is Porter's steel player, and what was "that thing" he was playing? Sure sounded good!

Bobby, I believe Porter's steel player
is Fred Newell. He plays a GFI steel.
He used to play lead guitar with Larry
Sasser on Nashville Now.

At one time Fred Newell was an "In man " for session work.\ on the guitar. For a while he was Weylons Steel player,At one time I wasn't impressed with his Steel playing,I am now.The Opry was pretty good and ballanced tonight. It was nice to see Leon playing with a smile again and he took a pretty good rip on that guitar. Attn. Pete Fisher:Who is washed up?.Porter shows some class or good judgement. He can only sound better with that band. Good Opry three weeks in a row.

I think Porter's opening tune was the best thing of the whole televised portion. Leon did his usual great job he's smoother'n silk. I noticed ol' Fred Newell had his E9th neck on the inside. I wonder if he likes the way Chalker set his up or Ralph Mooney. Either way he's really improved a lot from the first time I heard him. I liked those band shirts too! As for the rest of the show, I liked Trace Adkins rendition of "Poor Wayfarin' Stranger". His voice really fits that kind of tune and Claire Lynch is great. But Mark Wills was just the usual normal everybody sounds alike stuff you're getting out of Nashville these days. I did like his recording of "Wish You Were Here" though. I wish he'd done it instead of the new stuff!

No gig Saturday nite so I tuned in WSM on the AM radio. Due to good ionospheric skip conditions it really came in clear up here in Michigan. I echo the sentiments of Mike and Joe. This was maybe the best opry show I've heard since the first of the year, and last week's was good also. I notice that Porter has been doing that tune "Daddy's Old Sayings and Mama's Beliefs" a lot lately--great song and it grows on you over time. Wonder if it's available thru ET Record Shop?

I kinda think that after watching leon smokin and Fred Newell smokin and by the way that's the first time I ever seen him play steel like that the rest of the show was rather blaaa really it is a shame for any one to have to follow great players like that them boy's can scare you
