Hi all,
Anyone have experience with these? Any reviews?
Lets get crazy and take it one step further… Growler or Justice S10 3x4? Differences between the two?
Any input is appreciated!
Thanks,
David |

No disrespect to the Growler, but I highly recommend the Justice 3x4. I absolutely love mine!! _________________ Justice S10 3x4 Blue Ripple

The Growler uses a pull/release changer, and the Justice has an all-pull design. (The all-pull is a more modern and capable mechanism.) The Growler uses a wood pedalboard, and the Justice uses a metal one. (The metal pedalboard is stronger, more rigid.) The Justice uses standard legs w/machined endplates, more indicative of a pro-level guitar.
However, if cost is an issue for you, the Growler would be $700-$800 cheaper. So it all depends on you budget, and if a more professional model is something you want or need. |

The cost would be a factor. To save $500-800, I guess I wonder if a Growler is a safe landing spot or if its junk. Sounds great online from the few clips avail but… |

It is not just cost but resell value. If this is your first pedal steel, chances are it won't be your last. I find it valuable to invest in instruments that hold their resell value. If you get a used Justice, You are most likely going to be able to sell it for what you paid for it. _________________ Check out the Steel Guitar Union Hall Youtube Channel https://www.youtube.com/@steelguitarunionhall |

I love the fact that everyone has commented on the Growler and Shonuff steel guitars, but none of you guys have played one. I build these guitars one at a time, we offer wrap around end plates, chrome legs aluminum pedal boards but you don’t mention any of this and no my guitars are not junk, but I have a price point for everyone. We take or back in on trade the undercarriage has a lifetime warranty, not 90 days. So if u want to comment on Growler Steel guitars please get one and play it. I don’t talk negatively about anyone’s guitars, I wish everyone that wants a guitar buys it. Please come to North Carolina would love to talk to you. |

I really really wish a pedal steel guitar like this had been available 45 years ago, when I could not afford a nice S10 and did not have the skill or the time to fix up a banger and learn how to play. |

Susie, point of information: The only guitar you make that is mentioned in this thread is the Growler. I just looked at your website, and it does not mention that wrap around end plates, chrome legs, or aluminum pedal boards are available on that brand of guitar, though it does mention these options are available on the ShoNuff brand, which you also make. |

You can make a Growler or Shonuff as expensive or inexpensive as your budgets allow, most people just starting out want high quality for the least money. So we try to offer that. But if you have questions about our guitars please call and my husband Kelly, who is the buildee, or I will be glad to cover any information you need. Thanks for the response. |

Jimmie Hudson is my uncle. My Aunt passed a year ago and Jimmie is also experiencing health issues. My husband Kelly and I were fortunate enough to be able to take over Growler Steel Guitars. Jimmie has spent the past year guiding and teaching us his techniques. We have produced over 100+ guitars so far and going strong! Our shop is located just a few miles from Jimmie’s and he builds our custom cases. |

I bought a six string Growler from Jimmie February 2023. Love it. I have played it on 2 gigs. It let me get into steel at a good price. Thank you Jimmie! _________________ Music, faith and family are my life. |

These guitars look really great, perfect for a beginner. I am so glad to see that this is continuing on! Jimmie's work has been a huge inspiration for me, especially his resonator guitars. I think his designs are brilliant. |

I'm not sure it was mentioned in this thread but according the email I received from Susie Fine, the Growler is not upgradable to a 3x4. The design precludes adding more levers (2x2 is the only configuration). I got interested in the 6 string that Chris Glass plays, with the 3x4 G tuning. But the growler is out. I'm still waiting to hear from jackson. _________________ Check out the Steel Guitar Union Hall Youtube Channel https://www.youtube.com/@steelguitarunionhall |
