What Effects Do You Use

Live and in the studio and how do you hook them up?
Live, I've been using a DD6 delay and amp reverb, Nasn 112. I run my delay after the volume pedal. If I use an amp in the studio I go dry, sometimes a little delay. Direct, I use a Roland GP 100 and Lexicon MX 200 and MPX 100. I like knobs so that why I don't use the fx in the Roland. I use the preamp and speaker/cab simulater. I'm interested in hearing what all of you use.

Live I use a goodrich steel driver>volume>ampw/ reverb effects loop is a bobro off and a danecho on I hit them with My hand when I need to switch. I used to use a line 6 but I was to stupid to get it right. Studio I go dry and add effects later.

Most of the time for me it's delay only. I stopped using reverb years ago when I realized how bad it screwed up the tone.

Most of the time I play through a Genesis III unit for the amp modeling and go direct from it to the board in the studio. For "live" I use the Genesis III ad my trusty old Nashville 400. I have a Goodrich LDR pedal I use a lot in the studio and sometimes "Live", but at the Opry I just use a standard Emmons pedal and plug straight into the amp provided there (Tommy White's Webb).

after years of amassing pedalsI now keep it simple.
my old modded tubescreamer, a volume pedal and a delay.
I run that into my Vibrolux tube amp.
I apply a generous amount of attitude and finger tone.

I haven't done much studio work since I left SoCal over twenty years ago but do gig quite a bit around the area so here's my live set up.......

Steel Guitar (BMI S-12) An old Ibanez two rack space analog delay unit which sounds fantastic. A BBE Sonic Maximizer, and a Goodrich MatchBox.

Lead Guitar.....I use a Boss ME-50 Multiple Effects unit and the built in Phaser in my MusicMan HD-150

I just picked up a new chorus pedal;
the Digitech CF-7. I'm going to try and work it in. It says it can reproduce 7 different chorus pedals including Fulltone, Voodoo etc; a real Swiss Army knife of chorus pedals.

It was only $100 ($149 list) so I'm going to keep my hopes low. Considering how little I'll use it I'm not going to worry about it sucking the tone away.

I was looking at a couple of $300+ chorus pedals and I may still go that way but for now this will be a great entry into seeing if it would be worth it. I think on a few of the ballads it will 'pretty' things up with the delay.

I feel quality effects like 24 bit processing won't hurt your tone too much and the less you have between the steel and amp the better. Of course quality cables really help too. I'm sure most who read this post already know that.

I forgot to add that I use a black box and I have a boss chorus ensemble and boss overdrive. Dave, what kind of settings do you use on the Genesis 3? I have one and I used it alot on sessions until I got the Roland. Thanks everyone who has posted.

Tony, the T.C. Electronic M350 has knobs and it's a great unit at a great price. I've had mine for about a year and it's really easy to use and the reverbs are first rate. It's a dual engine unit with a big selection of reverbs on one engine and then a bunch of other effects including several delay modes on the second engine. I just use reverb and a little delay. The unit runs through the parallel effects loop on my Revelation Tube Preamp.

If I'm using my Boogie combo amp, I usually put the Rotosphere in the effects loop. Sometimes I'll put the MXR AutoQ after the volume pedal, for a Wah effect.

If I'm using the POD XT (direct into the PA or recording console), I don't use any additional effects.

I also have a Mesa/Boogie rack rig that I play through now and then. It has a Lexicon MPX-100 in it. Sometimes I use the MXR AutoQ with that too.

All 3 of those rigs have built-in distortion, so I don't need a distortion effect box. Now and then I'll play a country gig with my Webb amp. I usually hook up a Real Tube distortion stompbox with the Webb, just in case they play a couple of rock tunes.

In my home studio I often play through a vintage Fender Princeton with a Holy Grail reverb.

Total effects arsenal:

H&K Rotosphere
MXR AutoQ
POD XT
Lexicon MPX-100
Real Tube distortion
Holy Grail reverb

But not all at once!

I also use a Steel Guitar Black Box sometimes, but that's not really an effect, is it?

Emmons to Steel Guitar Black Box to Hilton pedal to Boss DD6 (delay only)to Fender Steel King. George L cables all around, cut to perfect length. I use a Peterson StroboFlip hooked up to the tuner out of the Steel King.

If that doesn't work out for whomever I am playing with, then I am not the right person for the gig.

Eventually, I will probably get a Revelation and TC350.

You can set it for either, but using it with an amp requires some special "dialing in". I don't usually use it with an amp.

My Mesa rack is a Mesa V-Twin preamp (with footswitch), a Lexicon MPX-100 and a Mesa 20/20 power amp. I run it into a pair of 12" Tone Tubby hemp cone alnico speakers, in Boogie 1x12 boxes.

You really need the manual to program the MPX-100, as it has no display. I have my patches in the user bay, and I keep a cheat sheet handy. It's very easy to use on stage, but programming it is tricky.
