mod for 400

does a mod kit for a nashville 400 really help that much?

Good question. I was wondering the same thing and which mod, Peavey or Lemay? Are they comparable?

I have always preferred a Nashville 400 with no mod....specifically the ones with chrome hardware.Once I had a Vegas 400 that had the Lemay mod and it was agreat sounding amp.Foolishly I either sold or traded it away.

My Nashville 400 is a 1989 model and , yes, the mod is worth it.
It certainly improved the tone and clarity of the amp.
I have the Peavey Factory Mod with the upgrade to the 2604 chip.

If you have one of the "later" models with the 1501 speaker and without the mod you will hear a big difference.

If you have one of the original models with the 1502 speaker, the mod doesn't really do much as the amp is tailored for the 1502 speaker.

I've done the mod on an original model with the 1502 speaker and other than updating the op-amp chips it didn't really do anything for it.

I had Ken Fox do his mod to the 400 I got from you last fall. It made a big difference to me. If you or Jim want to test drive it, I will bring to the meeting next Sunday........

Yes the mod makes a big difference. If you want to make it really good, do the reverb mod too.
The Peavey mod is supposed to have a little less low end boost than the Lemay.i don't think they make the Lemay mod anymore.With the reverb mod it made mine sound like a giant Twin with a Tele.

I had the mod done by Peavey about a month ago. It really made a difference in my amp, which is an '87. there's more bass, less shrillness, just a much smoother sound. Peavey did the work very fast, and very reasonable too.

My mod is a composite of the Peavey mod, Metzger reverb mod, all new filter caps and the audio coupling caps are replaced with tantalum caps.
I use Sprague orange drop caps for the Peavey mod and Metzger mod as well.

Listen to Randy Beaver's amp here. He is using a Black box and my mod with the amp's internal reverb! Amp sounds equally well on a Tele, too.
