Gulp! Where's Chief Jay Strongbow now that I need him!? Or maybe the Fabulous Moolah? You know how hard I wave the flag for the Dustpan and my lust for owning one is making my kids' radio controled cars and trucks look like tempting yardsale fodder. Sure sorry I missed the Dustpan consumer report in Jolliet! Nevertheless, I believe in fairness and the GB is a fine sounding steel. Wood is wood and aluminum is aluminum - can't we all get along? Forget about comparing aluminum to wood, or bakelight to carbon fibre.

The real important comparison is Dusty Rhodes's elbow to Greg "The Hammer" Valentine's elbow! Now that's a face off!

How about a tag team match?....Rick "Magneto" Aeillo and Sage Harmos vs George "The Board" Piburn and Alva West. I'd order my pay per view tickets right now! Image

I just want to know what's in that paella that Neer serves. I know a gal that would kill for those non-surgical enhancements.

Come to think of it, there should be a steel playing wrastler.....where's Joey Ace? Image

Come to think of it, maybe I should quit while I'm ahead....

The image invites technical expansion into the realm of body slam blocking and unique hammer-ons. Some on the forum may also recall the heyday of Tuesday night entertainment, including BoBo Brazil (peaked circa 1955-1960) and his patented CoCo Butt (an abrupt form of forehead blocking).

Bobo Brazil - from Benton Harbor, Michigan!!
Hometown favorite. Always a straight shooter and honest guy.

Boy oh boy, this thread brings back pre-adolescent memories of watching "Big Time Wrestling" on channel 9 from Windsor, Ontario (across the river from Detroit). Locally produced TV, a thing of the past. Image

The host of the weekly Saturday night show was Lord Athol Layton (lending a bit of British legitimacy to the proceedings). Weekly guest wrestlers included Flying Fred Curry, Wild Bull Curry (I had that once in an Indian restaurant, it was great!), Haystacks Calhoun, Tiger Jeet Singh, Bulldog Brower, Bulldog Don Kent, Gorilla Monsoon, Dick the Bruiser and from Williamston, Michigan, the one, the only... The Sheik.

It was always a good match when the Sheik would fight Mark Lewin (Jewish wrestler from NYC). After the fight they would go out for a beer together at the Lindell AC (sports bar in downtown Detroit).

Mike Neer's pre-war Hawaiian workshop?! Well now, why didn't you say so? That's a horse of a different color!

Now we're talkin'...sounds great.....I am so there.

One further note on wraslin'....I hardly watch TV, but I do tune into wrestling. Sure it's funny, outrageous, and childish, HOWEVER, I have learned so much from it. Yes, people look at me like I'm nuts when I say this.

Vince McMahon is a genius (in his own industry) when it comes to marketing, promoting, and expanding his business. I have used his statagies and techniques, and have applied it to my business, with much success.

He knows how to capture and hold interest. He keeps people wondering what will happen next. He knows when to move before something becomes too stale. He's not afraid to take chances and he puts himself right out in front. Doesn't matter if he's the good guy, the bad guy, the clown, or the CEO. He makes himself vulnerable, yet he's in complete control. He creates non-stop spectacle.

Wraslin' has been berry berry good to me.

How can you pencil-necked geeks talk about old-school wrestling without mentioning Classy Freddy Blassie?

And ... surprise! "George the Animal" is actually Jim Myers a family man and masters degreed high school wrestling and football coach for many years. He suffered from chrone's disease for a few years but is still kicking (but no longer literally).

You know it Russ, 'The Hollywood Fashion Plate' was the best L.A wrestling ever saw.

Freddie VS John Tolos at the Colluseum, headlining in front of a world record attending crowd, chained together with spiked dog collars in a great blood bath battle for 3 insane rounds... now, THAT'S entertainment!

Or any Sat. night at The Olympic Aud. with Jimmy Lennon and Dick Lane at the mics, and Blassie heaten' it up big time, The Destroyer/Dr. X with his crushing 'flying leg lock', The Shiek (mysterious metal objects and fire balls!), or Bobo giving the 'sleeper', all made for a fun evening circa '60 in So. Cal.

El Monte Legion Stadium!

For you Freddie-O-philes, I know the truth about the time "some fan's threw acid on me", at The Olympic. It wasn't, but what it was made it hilarious instead of serious.

Long live Freddie Blassie!

And steel guitars!!

Gerald and others - treasure trove here - innovators all. Thinking of the potential (and kinetic energy) of past possible steel endorsers - Bruno Sammartino, Argentino Apollo, Red Bastine, Sky Low Low, Hans and Fritz Mortier, The Graham Brothers, Gorgeous George, and a host of others equally capable of string (then called rope) pulls, and extraordinary blocking skills. The above pictures comprise a galaxy of eccentric tunings.
