He doesn't get much screen time, but man, what a touch he had! My son had PJs when he was little that looked a lot like Ray's suit minus the fringe.

These are great video clips. In the the Color version it seems like Ray was getting the Hank Williams Sr. sound nailed.

In the black and white version, it looks like Jimmy Day left his custom made cowboy suit on the bus. Too cool for school.

And the honky tonk version of Soft Rain is MUCH better than the pop country version. MUCH better.

the first clip, Jimmy is playing a Wright Custom , my Dad built him, he also recored Crazy Arms with it... great stuff!!!!!!

Yes David, I craved the "Crazy Arms" tone for years and it shows up well in this clip.

Love these old clips makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck!! Also had a shot of the drummer with 1 stick & 1 brush. Love that sound!!

What more could anyone ask for. My favourite singer and Steelplayer all in one. I think its time this company brought out a DVD with all these clips on (if they haven't already.) Buck Owens , Conway Twitty, George Jones, etc, etc, Superb.

Hey David, I dont play as well as Jimmy,but we have one thing in commmon,your dad built me my first peddle guitar back in 1970 and it is still a cadillac.It is hard to believe how far ahead he was, and in IMO, I dont think they will ever catch up. BILLY WEBB.

I'm not sure about the six string guitar, but I wondered if the steel Jimmy Day was playing is a Fender. It sounds incredible and I love how the audience applauds when the steel solo starts! Brett, Emmons S-10, Morrell lapsteel, GFI Ultra D-10

For you trivia buffs,that was Pete Wade singing harmony w/ Ray on the b/w show,& yes,that does look like a very early Mosrite guitar.

Jimmy Day played behind Willie Nelson on a track titled "I Just Dont Understand", from Willie's album of the same name from the early '70's.
I have been listening to and studying that tune repeatedly for the past several weeks trying to find how and where he struck a couple of chords, in a fill, that have a peculiar but "signature" Jimmy Day "growl" to them.
They also appear in his work from "Steel and Strings" but I don't remember where.
What beautiful stuff...

I would never have known a Wright Custom had I not seen one up close and personal at the Steel Jam that Don Burroughs & crew held in Kingsville, Ohio this past weekend. Awesome 4 necks.[This message was edited by Ray Minich on 18 July 2006 at 11:28 AM.]
