Hey, Micky!

I want to thank you for recalling that gig where we accompanied Maurice (see the LKV thread on Pedal Steel).

Your memory's terrific! I remember the occasion but I couldn't for the life of me recall where it was. The 'Traveller's Rest' in Kenton - of course! That was the venue of one of the country music clubs (one of Bernie's?) too.

That drummer was John Halsey and was a part of Fatso. He was also the drummer in the film, 'The Rutles', and played the character 'Barry Wom'.

He wasn't a big steel guitar fan, but I do remember, after he'd heard Maurice, him asking me why I couldn't play like that!!!!

He was a funny guy, and would often be heard above the sound of 'Fatso' in full flight, shouting: "You can have rock'n'roll without steel guitars, but you can't have rock'n'roll without drums!!!!" It was all very good-natured.....(I think.....

Hey Roger, good to see ya on this thread. yep the "Travellers rest " Kenton London, played there many times in that era. A few years ago Bernie's wife Kim died suddenly in her sleep. He completely went down hill after that, he's old now and has Alseimers desease. I saw him brought to a club he "used" to run "the Rifles" in Enfield, and it was sooooo sad to see the way he was

Getting back to "Fatso" I saw you many times in the "Nashville Rooms" in Kensington London. I loved the way you all played that fun number where you all weren't even playing at all, but still going through all the motions for a good 4 minutes. Crowd loved it, also when you played on steel (ZB then) "Edelweise" badly and out of tune deliberately, until the end phrases when the real you dropped in so sweetly. Also remember you with the "King Pins" at the "Red Cow" in Hammersmith, and you had your Strat (I think?) and you sang "The lights went out on Broadway" I think that's what it was called!!! Wonder where Tommy Duffy is these days?? funny guy!...... Yes my long term memory is really good, but my memory of recent events is quite the opposite. May be down to the meds I'm on.....105 pills each and every week for life

Now how 'bouts you signing my guestbook sometime? I love that from friends "And" strangers too!!

The Nashville Rooms (West Hammersmith, London) was where I was doing a 'Fatso' gig and taking my first tentative public step on my new ZB student guitar when Buddy Emmons walked in.... I think that's why I'm no bloody good to this day. I was traumatised on my debut performance!!!!

I'm sorry you have so many pills to take - I only take 56 a week. Trust me, though - they're a whole lot cheaper where you live!

I've just been back to your web-site and re-read your terrific tale.

Hey Roger, sure remember the "Merryhills" well. I still see Julie, but we're separated now, but still mates. I'm with Jess now....her pix is on my website under "friends & Aquaintances" .....re Pills, thank GOD for our N.H.S. system,also all my operations were done for free
