I want to thank you for recalling that gig where we accompanied Maurice (see the LKV thread on Pedal Steel).
Your memory's terrific! I remember the occasion but I couldn't for the life of me recall where it was. The 'Traveller's Rest' in Kenton - of course! That was the venue of one of the country music clubs (one of Bernie's?) too.
That drummer was John Halsey and was a part of Fatso. He was also the drummer in the film, 'The Rutles', and played the character 'Barry Wom'.
He wasn't a big steel guitar fan, but I do remember, after he'd heard Maurice, him asking me why I couldn't play like that!!!!
He was a funny guy, and would often be heard above the sound of 'Fatso' in full flight, shouting: "You can have rock'n'roll without steel guitars, but you can't have rock'n'roll without drums!!!!" It was all very good-natured.....(I think.....
