Caught the Show at The Texas Opry tonight with Russ Rickman on steel. Russ is one of the best commercial players I have ever heard, and a super nice guy to boot. His wife Jac performed on the show. Great stage appearance, and her vocals were outstanding. Great show. Jody.

Ahhh yes! Jac and Russ....Chicago's loss is FOR SURE Texas' gain. I love Russ's playing and Jac's singing, and they are both dear friends to my wife and myself.

I might let the cat out of the bag on this, but Russ is also an excellent cook! Sometimes we get together for wine and food and wine, and....wine.

Having spent some time with Russ, I can say that he is one of the most helpful people and most honest people that I know. That could also be said about every person who has posted on this thread so far, I am fortuante to live where I do and to know such great people. Russ is an all around good guy and a VERY knowledgeable musician. The guy is a theory wizard. He has helped me on steel and he recently guided me through the process of making a bass and bass amp purchase.(what can I say, I need the work)..Of course I knew he was a good guy when I saw a banjo in his home.(oops, was that a secret?) I regret that the opry is over an hour from my home and I have not been able to watch him there. I went to see Russ at smaller venue once, not to long ago, and he was great. What was most surprising was when he invited me up on stage. Not to play, but even more amazingly, he allowed me to sit next to him. As he played the steel parts, he explained to me what he was playing and why, WHILE HE PLAYED IT….WOW….That was one of the best lessons I have ever had and I didn’t even have to pay for it. Can you imagine, a lesson on how to play in a live situation? How to actually apply all that theroy...Piceless. I would not even know how to begin to put a value on something that special…...HA....James

I met Russ via email through a mutual friend, a great Chicago area steeler named Paul Carestia. At the time Russ was contemplating making a move to Texas. After he got here ("as fast as he could", as the saying goes), I had the pleasure of working some gigs with him. They don't come any finer than this gentleman. A great player and human being! And he writes the most beautiful steel guitar tablature you ever saw!

Thanks guys, you’re way too kind and do not lack in the Texas' bull department, and that’s a fact! Truth is that it has been a honor and pleasure meeting all ya’ll! Just being around players of your caliber is a true inspiration to this transplanted Yankee.
