Johnny One Note"........songs

Post by Ray Montee (RIP) »

As a steel player, do you find it difficult to figure out anything worthwhile, considering your years of training and cost of equipment, etc., to play on some of the latter years large volume of "ONE NOTE" type songs that are essentially a monotone of non-melodic ramblings? Just curious.......

How about" let-down" that we have lack of progress. I was hoping by now I could get steel tab in all types of music from classic to hard rock.

Like "One Note Samba?" Just kidding. I would answer yes to your question. These kinds of songs are simultaneously uninteresting and uninspiring ....

No.

If as you have stated, your serious playing took a downward turn after Elvis came on the scene and "killed live country music", you must be talking about a lot of music..

Could you be a bit more specific as to which songs and artists of which era you are referring?

I'd think that years and years of training and tons of equipment would possibly help a person to improvise, or maybe create some less monotonus music.

I'm thinking One Note Samba, In the Mood, Alley Cat, The Charleston, Twelfth Street Rag, and the Hilo March were some of the most boring songs I've ever heard, and some folks still do pretty well with them though they're over 50-80 years old.

I'm mystified as to what "Era" you are talking about?

Neal Young's lead guitar to Cinamon Girl was one note.

The Ramone's "I want to be Sedated" lead guitar was one note.

I don't think you are playing this type of music so maybe some examples would help us.

One man's 'non melodic' is another man's 'cool bop'.
