Chart for Blue Jade

Post by Shaun Marshall »

Does anyone have a copy of the music or Tab for Buddy's tune Blue Jade, I know it's in the Anthology book by Scotty/Mel Bay, HOWEVER the book is now out of print and I can't find anyone who has one to sell, just wanted to see the tab or chord chart for this sweet tune ? Thank you !

Here's Scotty's book version:

F F F Bb
F Bb F Bb F F
F F F Bb
F Bb F Bb F F
Dm F Bb F
Dm F Bb F Bb
F Bb F Bb F F

This can also be found on Big Jim Baron's 4100+ CD for BIAB. Great song.

I noticed that Ron Elliot's version on the 5th & 6th line are:

Dm Dm Bb F
Dm Dm Bb F Bb

Just a slight variation.

Billy Cooper's Music in Virginia had the Anthology in stock just a few months ago.

The version of Blue Jade in this book is live from the 1978 Steel Guitar Convention. It is not as "Oriental" sounding.<font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by John Lockney on 21 December 2005 at 05:12 PM.]</p></FONT>

Shaun, was the chord chart all you needed or did you need tab?

Here's a Tip: play strings 5,6, and 8. The first chord is the first fret no pedals, the 2nd chord is the 3rd fret with just the B pedal, and the 3rd chord is the 4th fret with the A pedal and the R (E to F) knee lever.

It's been years since I've heard it.But I'm thinking Buddy only used strings 5&6 till he got to the 13th fret moving to the 8th fret. There he included the 8th string with 5&6.

I know there are many ways to play this. Never heard Buddy play it the same way twice except for the head.......<font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Bobby Boggs on 21 December 2005 at 09:45 PM.]</p></FONT>

Thanks everyone for the response, Jerry if you have the tab I would love it but I will try and see if Billy has the Anthology in stock. I spent a few enjoyable hours last night trying to figure out the melody and got pretty far. Thanks for all the tips everyone, I can hardly wait to get home from work and try it some more.

Scotty's has the Ron Elliot course "Pure American Steel" which includes 'Blue Jade'. Other songs in the course are I'm always chasing rainbows, 12th of never, softly and tenderly, will the circle be unbroken, the Lords prayer, born to lose, half a mind, careless hands, waltz across texas, amazing grace and America. All in the great Ron Elliot style. Blue Jade sounds like Buddy.

Shaun,

I did the tab on Blue Jade back in 1969 for the Emmons Guitar Co. Ron Lashley had me tab out 3 songs that were on Buddy's Black Album which had just been released. I tabbed Blue Jade, Danny Boy and Greensleeves plus 7 other tunes. This was the very first course I did. Even though the course is out of print, I still have some of the individual tabs. I have the tab for Blue Jade by itself if you are interested. It is $3.95 plus $1.00 for shipping.

I hope this helps. Also, this tab only requires 2 pedals and 1 knee lever.

Thank you Herby but I found a copy of the Anthology for sale. I just wanted to write a post saying thanks anyway because when I first got into steel Tom Bradshaw started me off with your E9 instruction book and the way you break down all the chords for each pedal and lever has been so helpful along with identifying the interval of each tone in the chord and on what string, That book is my main chord dictionary.

Happy New Year !
