Greg Leiz on CBS

Post by Stephan Franck »

Greg Leiz (SP?) was on the Johnny Cash tribute show last night. Played the most beautiful, sensitive steel I've heard in a long time behind Norah Jones on Home Of The Blues. He had a long nice solo, and was nicely shown on camera for a good long time -- made the PSG look quite glamorous!

Btw, Norah Jones was awesome, Dwight Yoakam & Alyson Krauss' duet was A+++, and Jerry Lee looked great -- much better that the last award show I saw him on. Oh, and it will be of little interest on this forum, but Kenny Arronof was awesome on drums.

And somewhere during the evening, it just occured to me that many of my favorite tunes of all time where Johnny Cash songs.

Greg Leisz is one of the most tasteful players around today, regardless of instrument. Whether he's playing some weird "country-bop" with Bill Frisell, pop-jazz (in lack of a better term) with Joni Mitchell, or traditional country, he never fails to impress me with his deep understanding of, and respect for, the music he plays.
