A Road Musician's Desparate Plea!

Post by Steve Alonzo Walker »

I Have Been A Road Musician For 25 Years With Several Artist Gigs Under My Belt. In Fact I'm With A Major Artist Now Who Has Lost The Desire To Perform Live On The Road. It's A Personal Thing With Him And Not Because Of The Bad Situation That The Country Music Is In Right Now. So, This Is The Main Reason I'm Sending This Plea Out There To All You "Working" Road Musicians In Hope That One Of You May Know Of An Artist Gig That Needs A Steel Player Or A Bass Player. I'm Not Whining Or Feeling Sorry For Myself... It's Just Not Right For Someone Who Loves The Road So Much And The Fellowship Of Musicians To Not Be Out There In The World Playing! I Don't Even Let The All Mighty Dollar Effect Who I Play For As I Have A Successful Handyman Buisness Which Lets Me Play For Whom I Want! I Am Grateful For All That I've Been Able To Do These Last 25 Years But, Now I Feel Helpless Because Life Is Passing By And I'm Not Doing What I Truelly Love To Do And That Is Being On The Road. I'm 52 Years Old And Full Of Vigure.I Don't Drink, Smoke, Or Do Drugs. I Believe In God And I'm A Loving Family Man!
So, Enough Of This Self-Pity. Thanks For Taking The Time To Read This And Remember All You Working Road Musicians; Jot My Contact Information Down And Please Let Me Know Of Any Artist Gigs That Are In Need Of A Steeler Or Bassist. My Bags Are Always Packed And Ready To Go! Thank You!!!

Steve.. I saw your profile,, The last artist you show there is pretty well known.. if you can score a road gig like that, you should not have too much trouble IF there is someone looking for a guy like yourself.

.. That being said, there are a LOT of us with the ABILITY to do a road gig with a touring pro,but I don't think the opportunities present themselves to everyone. There are plenty of GREAT players practicing in thier rec rooms ,and several Good players out on the road with touring acts.
You would think GREAT is more desirable than Good.. but I have found this not to be true all the time... I think there are more PLAYERS than good gigs out there... LOTS of competition... relax... I'll bet something comes up before very long.... bob
[This message was edited by Bob Carlucci on 24 April 2005 at 09:53 AM.]

[This message was edited by Bob Carlucci on 24 April 2005 at 09:55 AM.]

Good luck, pal! Y'all Steve is a REAL good steel player, bass player, and a fun guy to be around, as all the South Carolina guys can vouch for! Knows good guitar playing when he hears it, too...

I think you need to pay a visit to the "Nashville Musician's Employment Office", better known as "Tootsie's" Orchid Lounge". Image

Hi, Steve

You have my sympathy - it's either 'feast or famine' with me, too. I usually look forward to getting home for a while after a few thousand 'bus miles', but it isn't long before I'm missing it again.

After 45 years as a professional musician, I've come to accept the ups and downs are just the way it is.

Rest assured, if something comes up, and they decide they don't want this fat 62-year old, I'll put them on to you!

Best,

Roger

Hang in there Steve...I know what it is like to be at the end of your rope, and usually that is where Gods address is. Anyone looking for a steel/bassist, i can personally vouch for Steve's integrity. Very, very easy to get along with..the times we have conversed and when i did meet him he impressed me in that way, not a "i know it all" person. And his playing was superb on the opry. Best wishes Steve, write me anytime.

Steve IS a great guy and a great player for sure. I worked a show years ago here in Connecticut when he backed Cissy Lynn and Michael Twitty, and he was great to talk to and played his a$$ off. He definately gets the job done. Good luck with your search Steve!

Steve, I could have sworn I've seen a couple ads on here on the forum for road players, very recently. Do a search.
