I'm thinking Hal Rugg was playing for George in the early '60s when this song was cut, but it does sound like early Emmons! The tone of the steel sure sounds like a Fender 1000, and both Buddy and Hal had one at that time, so if it was Buddy, he may not admit to it! Image

Wynn Stewart released it in 1956. Later it was released by Lefty Frizzell and George Jones. I don't think I've heard those tracks, but I'm familiar with it through Lee and Knudsen's "Play me the waltz of the angels" which was on The Derailers Full Western Dress CD. I think Marty Muse played steel on that one.
