Who's playing steel on Vern's song " Way Down Deep " ? If anyone has the tab for the steel break, i'd sure love a copy.

Probably the great Jim Vest. He not only played steel on most of Vern's songs, but co-wrote a lot of them too.

Deeply underappreciated and, without doubt, one of the great voices in country music.

Vern Gosdin is one of my favorites, and I always thought he didn't get the recognition he deserved. Same goes for Jim Vest.

Kevin, is Vern doing any shows or road work? I play at the Plummer Family theater here in Mo.and a local radio station Froggy 96 brings in a Nashville act once a month. Our drummer, lead player, and myself are lobbying Froggy radio to bring him in. I recently picked up his greatest hits cd and have to take antihistimines to remove the goosebumps. He is one of the most underrated talents of our time.

I was just playing one of Vern's albums and was just carried away by everything about him and his music. Love his voice and what he does with it.
I was wondering about his health and then I turn on the computer and there is my answer.
I'm so glad he is O K
For the life of me, I don't know why he was not a super super star. He was and is to me.
And JIM OH yeah.....What a combination.
I'll never ever tire of Vern Gosden. Lets hear more and soon. Evelyn

I couldn't help but add my love and respect for this great
country voice. I never tire of it. "Chiseled in Stone" is a
masterpiece of country singing.

Mike, I don't think that Vern will be doing live appearances because of health reasons. He's really lucky to just be alive. He takes VERY good care of his health. He had us rolling on the floor with his road jokes. He told us the one about his last wife who broke his heart. He got so mad at her that he picked up a big ole rock and threw it at her when she left. He said he nearly knocked off one of her horns. Vern said that he is continueing song writing and will never stop.

I know it wont happen, but I think Vern Gosden should be put in the Hall Of Fame this year.

They added a "Contemporary country artists" category this year for artists who achieved stardom from 1975 to the present.

I have some of Vern's recordings from the '60's, but he realy didn't hit stardom till after '75. So I think he would be a great choice for the new category.

That's my Vote!!

A buddy of mine played bass for him, I've heard many of the stories. Especially ones about drummers.
I try not to let that take away from the great recordings he's made.
[This message was edited by Alvin Blaine on 13 April 2005 at 07:30 AM.]

Steve, You and I know what you mean only too well. And unless he's cancelled them he does have a few dates coming up this year. He just done a few already this year.
