This is a Bob Wills tune that I heard today,and it had some great steel work on it. I just thought I'd mention it. It's the first time I'd heard it.

That's a great old classic. Lots of bands used to close with it every night. One of my favorite memories is from a street show in Clovis, Ca. The band had a really good steeler named Wayne Carlock, Kelly Posey on guitar, Joe Holly on fiddle, along with past members of Bob Wills band. The highlight of the show for me was standing behind the trailer they were playing on and watching the drummer. When the song started he started playing with one hand and tearing down with the other. By the time the song ended he had nothing left but the bass drum and pedal. He used the stick on the edge of the bass, never missed a beat. That was the late sixties, hope those guys are still around. Sorry to be so long winded.

Howard speaks with straight tongue! Back in the early days when I worked with western swing bands, almost all of them closed the night with "Goodnight Little Sweetheart".

Back when I was workin' w/ Lee Wayne & The Nomads,in Springfield,Ma., Lee would close the night,w/ that selection. I never heard it before then. Lee turned me on to a lot of Bob Wills,Hank Thompson,& Leon McAuliffe stuff. God bless Lee Wayne,wherever he's at.

Lee Wayne went back to Oklahoma many years ago. I used to go to the Pleasantdale club in Chicopee to see you guys.Rich Remington who played lead guitar with you at that time, worked with me for about three years. 69, 7o, 71. But that is a beautiful song, with some great steel.

Goodnight little sweetheart has been a favorite of mine for many, many years. A Wills' band of some group has recorded it many times over the years. My favorite is anytime Bob Wills himself sang the lyric, which he did many times. He really could put that song across. A fine lyric and always a great steel guitar sound. Al

Thats a great song. We still play it on occasion along with other Bob Wills songs.

Leigh,
I neglected to mention that Lee Wayne passed away several years ago. From Mass.,he followed me to Wheeling,W.V.('67) Then,when I came to Nashville in '68,he went back to Alva,OK.& remained there,until his death.
I owe a lot to Lee,as he taught me to play some drums,& when I came to Nashville,I couldn't find a job as a steeler,so I "farmed-out" as a drummer for a while. It kept me in groceries for a while. So,once again,thank you Lee Wayne,wherever you are.

Lee Wayne and Billy Van surprised me one night I believe it had to be in 88 or 89 at the Ranch House. They came in early enough so that Billy and LEE did a couple of sets. Anyhoo we woke Smiley up from the pay phone later and that was before Cell Phones.That was one of the nights I happened to have a Reel to Reel hooked up.Now I will have to go through some of my "pile".I wish I had learned how to label in those days.
