Steel Convention - 2025?!

Post by Greg Simmons »

Hey all of you out there in steelguitarland Image

I'm taking a break from packing up the house for our move next week - uh, don't tell the Missus Image - and am musing about what a steel guitar convention will look and sound like in, say, the year 2025.

I have some thoughts but want you to show me yours first Image

It will be done with computers, and you won't have to actually attend. Merely submit your credit card number.

Put on your interactive helmets (for the visual effects like 3D, surround sound etc.), pay for as long as you want to view and select the players and projects you want to hear.

Here are a few of the acts available:

1) "Steel And Cuss" (the only hip-hop trio using three pedal steels)

2) "Steelin' Gangstas" (cool rap on the non-pedal steel)

3) "Steelmill" (ancient garage rock from the early 21st century, played on vintage instruments)

4) "No Bars Attached" (trendy computer rhythm, using unforgettable sample steel sounds from the last 10 years)

5)"Smooth Steel" (the sounds for the nostalgic, songs that changed the world - from Shania Twain to Celine Dion - played on the three-string lap steel)

Go order now!

it will be cancelled for lack of performers and attendees.

The five of us who are left and can still put together a sentence will gripe about it on whatever the internet becomes.
[This message was edited by Dave Van Allen on 15 November 2004 at 12:34 PM.]

And it still won't be accepted as a true jazz instrument I suppose.

I assume that there will be steel guitar shows in 2025 provided the current administration doesn't hasten the coming of the rapture :>) WHOOPS, sorry.

This is a very pertinent topic. Who are the young stars of steel guitar?

Hmmm, that's what I thought.

it's only 21 years away- I'll be 72 the same age as my dad when he passed, and younger than several of our fellow forumites are now.

If I lose 80 lbs and start walking everyday, lay off the pork, oh I dunno - I might make it.
