Buddy Emmons w/ Casey Clark??

Post by Jussi Huhtakangas »

Dug out and listened to an album I've had for years and pretty much had forgotten about. It's an old LP on a Crown-label called "In Memorial To Lonnie Barron with Casey Clark & Evelyn Harlene, all the songs were recorded early/mid 50's. Crown was a budget label, so there are no credits whatsoever on the album. What makes it interesting,( I finally get to the topic here )are the two Casey Clark songs, "Pot Of Gold" and "Could You, Would You". There's some very nice steel playing on both songs, could these be among the very first commercial recordings Mr Emmons played on? We know he was in Casey Clark's band around the time these were recorded and frankly, the steel work and tone sound a lot like his early work with Little Jimmy Dickens. Does anyone know for sure???

Yep Lee, that's right, although Buddy got his Bigbsy already when he was with Casey. The tone on these recordings is very "Bigsbyish".

Compare it to the MP3 of Buddy with Casey Clark, linked from the Fun Stuff page.

That was very cool.
Theres a coolcd, out on Bronco buster, of germany called 30 nostalgic steel guitar instrumentals (#9056).
Which has Buddy with the country boys, doing Buddys boogie live.

If any of y'all would like to listen to the live version of "Buddie's Boogie" Lee refers to, I've got an MP3 of it here. Good listening.

Back in 1958, I listened to Terry Bethel playing with Casey Clark on a live, noontime radio show, from Yankton, South Dakota, I picked it up on my car radio when I lived a few miles south of Minneapolis, Mn. >Ah! for the good old days! au
