Early Steeler with Loretta Lynne

Post by Chippy Wood »

Iwas watching a Satelite life story of Loretta Lynne and the steel player was standing up , the guitar didn't appear to have pedal. he wore spectacles and looked a bit like Jeff Newman though I would guess he certainly wasn't, any ideas please?

I think I read somewhere that Speedy West played on the FIRST recordings or some of the first recordings for LL.

Of course Hal Rugg played the Decca stuff once she left Washington state and went to Nashville.

Owen Bradley produced her as well....

Tim, I remember the first song to get play on the radio about '61 and indeed it was Speedy playing on that early recording.

There was also a guy they called "Chick" out in Washington who played some dates with her way back when. Lorettal introduced me to him years ago. I don't remember his last name, or whatever became of him. Hope that helps.

I don't believe any recordings were made but I have a video of Jerry Byrd backing her; also Tommy Jackson on Fiddle; all in glorious black and white.

I'm not sure which year, but for 3 months in the early 60's the late Jerry Fox toured with Loretta.
