Campbell Brothers - this Friday!!

Post by Greg Simmons »

Aawwright - only a couple sleeps till Chuck and the bros. are here to amaze us at the Winspear Centre for Music.

Looks like they are up in Canada for three dates in three days (Edmonton Friday, Vancouver Saturday and Banff in the lovely Canadian Rockies Sunday).

It's gonna be a treat to see and hear this group right here at home Image

Chuck, if you see this I tried emailing but it bounced; Bob Blair and I (and a couple thousand other folks) will be there and hope to say hi maybe after the show Image

Well the Campbell Brothers w/Katie Jackson were all I imagined and more - solid rhythm section and of course some amazing playing by Chuck on the pedal steel (Sierra 12 string), Darick on the Sierra 8 string non-pedal, and Phillip is no slouch on the electric guitar either Image

There is such a lyrical voice-like quality to the single string steel stuff that I think really is the hallmark of this style - very tasteful use of effects esp. the eBow Chuck used on a fine rendition of Summertime.

Lots of spirit, heart and soul on stage with almost 2,000 in the audience getting into it!

As good as the recordings are, I believe you absolutely must see these folks live for fulfillment Image

A few of us had a good visit w/Chuck afterwards and he showed us some sweet stuff up close - the man has big time chops.

The bonus is that the gig was recorded for broadcast on the CBC's Saturday Night Blues; this is a national network radio show produced out of Edmonton - I'll post when I find out the air date and you can hear it over the web.
