DAY now EMMONS. I think JD said it best way back when: It depended on who you met first.
I guess that explains me meeting Garrett and Day with Jim Reeves years before I ran into the Big E. For me changing was like putting your head on the other way. Four years in and I still miss a throw if I don't concentrate on them.

'DAY'

When I started playing in England in the mid-70s, a great guy by the name of Eric Snowball started to deal ZBs. For some reason that I'm unaware of, all of these guitars seemed to have the 'Day' set-up, so I didn't know any different. Now, if I sit down to an 'Emmons' set-up, it feels as though one needs to be double-jointed to play that way!

I'm very interested in the reponse to this thread; I asked Mr Seymore once, and he thought that 'Day' players amounted to about five percent - I wonder?

I'm comforted that, as well as Jimmy, of course, the great Tommy White is one of the 'five percent'.....

Day on E9th. "Roller" on C6th. I would be interested to know if anyone else in the world has their C6th completely backwards like I do. BooWah is 8th, 7th pedal lowers 5th and raises 9th and 10th strings, 6th pedal raises 2nd and lowers 6th string and 5th raises 3rd and 4th whole tone. 4th changes from time to time.

Day then Emmons. The guy that set up my first guitar was a Day player and had very good points about it. He said it was more natural to rock your foot to the right. Makes sense to me. I bought a guitar that was set up with the Emmons set-up and it took about 3 days to get used to it. If you play the Day set-up you can't just walk in and sit in on anybodys guitar unless you can play both ways. Johnny Cox has played mine many times and it didn't seem to bother him. I read where about 10% of the players are Day players.

JERRY ROLLER: You've got me out of the closet !! I thought I was the only one in the world who had their 6th neck backwards !

I feel a lot better now..... When I got my first 1000, I put the pedals on there that Bob White had showed me. The M7/M9 and to the right of it the Raise the high third and Lower the Bottom one. I played that and added the others as I heard of them but in reverse order so they would work.

When I changed to the EMMONS on E9th I also tried to change the 6th neck but couldn't. There was just too much to invert so I went back to my old ways again.

You wouldn't by any chance be in the key of Cb on your 6th neck, would you ??

Since Bobby White is and was in my hometown and an influence on me maybe that is why my C6th is this way. Jimmy Day used to always come by the old Pedalmaster "factory" a block from my house we would visit all night when he would be in town playing the old Eagles Hall so I think that is why my E9th is Day setup.

Jerry re your post: Why do you think your C6 pedals are backward?....my early 80s ShoBud pedals came from the factory set-up the way yours is....and I always thought that it was standard, if there is such a thing!

I should add though, NOT my knee levers. I have my own setup on the knee levers, for instance I raise and lower my E's on E9th with my right knee, everything else is on my left knee. Personally I feel that there are a few definite chordal and physical comfort advantages to this, and besides that my right knee and right foot are on autopilot anyway. Just works better for me.

Emmons though oddly enough my ZB had the Day set up and that backwards set-up mentioned on C6.
