Just got home from Ricky's farewell tour appearance with Dale Watson. What a player and a nice guy to boot! Dale features Ricky on every song, the way good country music ought to be. He plays some amazing twin parts not only with Dale on guitar, but with the trombone player as well, and sings great harmony. Dale knows full well the challenge he's facing in tying to fill these shoes. Good luck with the golf, and we'll look for you in a few years on the Senior tour.

YEP, everything Roger said and then some. Ricky is one GREAT picker, and just as much a gentleman! He and the "Blue Darlin'" make one DYNAMIC DUO !!! You just can't say enough about Ricky, this was the first time I have had an opportunity to see and hear him but, I definitely hope it will not be the last. The whole band was great, Ricky was just the icing on the cake. Wish Dale luck in finding someone to fill Ricky's shoes, that ain't going to be easy!!! The best of luck to you Ricky on your new endeavours. Hope to see and hear you again soon pal.

I wish I could take Ricky's place just so i can hear Dale sing live almost every night. But, unfortunately I just got my first steel guitar today and it will take me a loooooong time until I can play like Ricky (If I ever get that good)

By that time, though, Dale will probably be in a nursing home celebrating his 100th birthday!!

Well I just got home from that 1000 mile trip back and what a nice suprise from the Crawford's. Thanks guys and was equally nice meeting ya'll face to face finally.
Don't know if you noticed but I was fighting the stupid sound man all night. I'd come down in dynamics and he'd crank me up...then when I jumped in....all I can hear was the blowing of the doors...then he'd back down and we'd start that crap all over again.......I hate that. And I usually turn around and unplug the mic on my amp(which I've done many many times)but didn't want to cause a sceen on my last night....ah.....ha.
Thanks for coming out there and the very nice words....and wish we could a done our good stuff for ya.....well we did a few.

Ricky...I noticed you giving him a few "suggestions"! The problems with some "sound engineers" is that they think they know what tone you should have as well. Curly Chalker was one to tell 'em quick not to mess with that. In spite of it all, it was a great show and a pleasure to meet you. I thought about you yesterday afternoon while I was slicing every tee shot!

Ricky---It was obvious that you were having a tough time with the "sound engineer"---with all the motions and had signals and signs you were giving him. There was one sign I never saw you give that CLOWN---maybe that one would have worked!

I know you would not do that being the pro that you are but, I'm sure the thought crossed your mind

Ricky I hear you. I've lost count of how many times I've fought that battle. The "ultimate solution" that has seemed to work best for me is that when all attempts at compromise have failed, I just crank my amp up until it's overriding the background singers whose mike is usually in my proximity, and the sound engineer loses the
ability to control my output unless he cuts everyone else out.....he is usually much easier to "talk" to at the next intermission.
