Little Jimmie Dickens Steel Player
Jimmie is appearing near me very soon. The publicity says Little Jimmy Dickens with the Grand Ole Opry band. I usually only attend these things if they have a steel player. I love Jimmie's balads and it wouldn't be the same without a steel. Does anyone know who might be playing with him or if he uses a steel on his road dates.
[This message was edited by George Kimery on 22 July 2002 at 06:16 PM.]

I went to a Jimmy Dickens show around 1966 and talked to his steel player about getting a pedal steel. He gave me the address for Shot Jackson and Sho-Bud in Nashville. I called Shot and had him make up a guitar for me. Do you know who might have been playing pedal steel for JD at that time?
Thanks, Erv

Jimmy Yates was playing with Little Jimmy Dickens on the road and at the opry, around mid 70's.
He lives right down the road from JD in Hendersonville, TN.
My friend Jimmy still has his Original Emmons PP of around 1966 or 1967, I am not sure of the date.
He has Midi pickups on both necks and now that he doesn't play, he might sell it to a serious buyer.
I have played his guitar, with a Twin and JBL'S, and all I can say, is Wow!...al

From years (decades?) of listening to Eddie Stubbs, I thought I heard him say that Buddie Emmons played with Dickens during the 60's. Certainly Emmons in on some tunes like "When a house is not a home". Obviously Emmons played on many, many sessions in the 60s but I thought that he was a part of Dickens band for a while.

Elmer Laurance played for Jimmy about that time. He also played on Bill Mack's recordings.
He now lives in Mineral Wells, Texas and plays with Jim Eaves and Pure Country every Saturday afternoon at the Ernest Tubb Record Shop in the Stockyard area of Fort Worth.
