Burke Carroll

Post by Greg Simmons »

Burke Carroll swung (no pun intended) through town last night with the Brothers Cosmoline, and I along with forumites Bob Blair and Al Shymanksi were treated to an evening of some very fine pedal steel courtesy of Burke and his D10 Fulawka.

Catch these guys if at all possible, really strong originals and a few choice well-done covers with very prominent pedal steel throughout; Burke also plays w/the Bebop Cowboys (Steve Briggs plays some excellent guitar with the Bros. and also plays with Burke in the BeBop Cowboys).

Keep an eye out for Burke with Luther Wright and the Wrongs as well.

He mentioned he's taking a bit of break next week but he'll be joining up w/the Wrongs for a swing down into the States around mid-August.

The Toronto area sure has produced some pickers indeed Image

Great player . . . super style . . . great sound . . . and a nice guy to boot.

I'm looking forward to seeing Burke again when he 'swings' down Michigan way with Luther.

Yep, a wonderul player to watch (just effortless right hand control, with no extraneous movement) and listen to, and a really nice guy. We had a lot of fun talking about old times in and around Toronto. Don't miss a chance to catch Burke in action.

Burke is a super teacher too! I make sure I arrange some lessons with him when he's in town!

I knew Burke when I used to travel to Toronto at least once a month back in the late 80's. What a great guy and player. The Toronto area has produced several terrific players and Burke is one of the best.

Folks, if he is involved in an act touring near you, carry your a$$ out there, in a heartbeat. You won't be disappointed.

Amen Danny, Burke is playing throughout the weekend at the Calgary Folk Fest, so I'm heading three hours South tomorrow am Image

On a sad note, my sister called me this morning from Calgary to tell me that the
Mecca Cafe, a great local roots music spot (Brothers Cosmoline were scheduled to play there Sunday night) and home, imho, to probably the best BBQ in Canada, burnt down overnight Image
