Burke Carroll swung (no pun intended) through town last night with the Brothers Cosmoline, and I along with forumites Bob Blair and Al Shymanksi were treated to an evening of some very fine pedal steel courtesy of Burke and his D10 Fulawka.
Catch these guys if at all possible, really strong originals and a few choice well-done covers with very prominent pedal steel throughout; Burke also plays w/the Bebop Cowboys (Steve Briggs plays some excellent guitar with the Bros. and also plays with Burke in the BeBop Cowboys).
Yep, a wonderul player to watch (just effortless right hand control, with no extraneous movement) and listen to, and a really nice guy. We had a lot of fun talking about old times in and around Toronto. Don't miss a chance to catch Burke in action.
I knew Burke when I used to travel to Toronto at least once a month back in the late 80's. What a great guy and player. The Toronto area has produced several terrific players and Burke is one of the best.
Folks, if he is involved in an act touring near you, carry your a$$ out there, in a heartbeat. You won't be disappointed.

Amen Danny, Burke is playing throughout the weekend at the Calgary Folk Fest, so I'm heading three hours South tomorrow am
On a sad note, my sister called me this morning from Calgary to tell me that the Mecca Cafe, a great local roots music spot (Brothers Cosmoline were scheduled to play there Sunday night) and home, imho, to probably the best BBQ in Canada, burnt down overnight
