Anybody know Ted Hockenberry?

Post by Uwe Haegg »

I hope I got the name right.
I had the pleasure of hearing him steel with his band "Wild Country" on a Friday night dance in Aztec,NM.
He plays awesome steel and five-string banjo.
He also has a fabulous voice - sings even better than their lead singer. If any of you know this gentleman, I would like to know more about him.

Ted played with a band from Tucson in the 70's called the Dusty Chaps.
A great original band.

I always thought that Dusty Chaps were one of the true country-rock-but-actually-wildly-eclectic jewels of the mid to late 70s. Their two albums are tough to find (They were even tough to find back then!) but are well worth the trouble. Not all that much steel on them, mind you, but some very cool songwriting and some wildly eccentric arranging. Almost every conceivable style of music mashed into one band and, despite how awful that probably sounds, they were GREAT!

That band represents some of the best memories I have of living in Arizona back then. (Come to think of it, they're some of the ONLY memories I have of those years....)

One of their albums was released by Capitol Records.
It's a good album, but they slicked it up a little too much.
The Chap's were a killer live band.
