Grand Ole Opry June 29th

Post by Ray Montee (RIP) »

TONIGHT has to be one of the most exciting Opry performances I've seen in many a decade.
Not only was the guitar work performed by Doyle Dykes exceptionally fine.......but singer Connie Smith made a great contribution to this show.........AND when it came time for the steel player to play his part, she spoke to the audience on mike and stated his NAME and said, in essence:
"If you like the steel guitar, let him hear you!" A nice gesture, a tip of the hat to the steel guitar......and a great talent!

Perhaps the Forum should all send Connie Smith a thank you note for her acknowledge-ment of the steel guitar in her group.
What's her email address?

With this kind of recognition....steel guitar might just be around for awhile longer.

JOHNNY COX was the steel man; did an excellent job and the camera actually showed him close-up, performing his excellent playing. For once the sound people had the mike/volume set so Johnny sounded like he was in the same room with singer Connie Smith. Let's thank Connie Smith!

Johnny Cox got two opportunities to play tonight; did truly fine work; and both the camera people and the sound team allowed his performance to be presented in a wonderful, wholesome manner.
Maybe SOMEONE(?) is listening to the Forum comments.

Great night for steel. Unfortunately, I could not hear much response when Connie said that. Maybe it was because I was clapping so loud myself. Great job Johnny. You are truly one of the greats.

Johnny Cox was super-what a great sound! It is so good of Connie to always mention the steel artist-she certainly has one of the best now!
