Opinions Requested

Post by Mike Sweeney »

I've been approached by a few people requesting that I tab out my CDs. I was just wondering if this would be something that would generate interest or if I would be wasting my time. This is a time consuming and fairly costly project, so I'm just testing the water before I make a commitment to actually do it.

Feel free to give any and all opinions here or by email.

Thanks in advance for your response,

Mike

Mike, tab is something I always look for--it should be a part of every release.

Also, if you don't, you'll always have people like me asking how you did one of the licks. Image Image

When I buy CDs, I buy the tracks and the tab also, if they are available.

Mike after hearing you in Nashville I'd love to have that Tab. But as bad as I play it would take me an hour just to figure out one of your great licks even with tab.

Allen,
I guess I'll never live that down but I'll treasure that hat that Ian gave me forever.

Mike, I hesitate to give advise. Doug Jernigan and I were in the instruction business for 25 years and I happen to know a little about selling tablature. Several years ago people did not have access to machines that copy. Nowdays, audio, video, and printed matter can be copied easily. That really cuts into sales in a big way. Most copying is done by good people who intend no harm. The problem is the number of people cutting one or two copies for their friends. When we were in business we even found people copying our material and selling it. With a very limited market to start out with, and sales being cut by those that copy, a modist profit for your investment and work becomes difficult. By the way, the last time I saw you pick was in Springfield, Missouri with a new artist that was billed with Ronnie Millsap. I have always admired your playing. Scotty is telling everyone your CD is one of the best new steel CD's that has come out. I would have to agree.
[This message was edited by Keith Hilton on 07 May 2002 at 01:50 PM.]
