Does anyone know the story about Paul McCartney asking Lloyd Green to go on tour with Wings? I think this might have been around 1976. I heard that Paul offered him only $200.00 per week.

I have a tape of an English radio show where LG talks about this... no figure was mentioned, he simply said that it would not have been financially viable for him to give up the session work he was getting in order to tour...
Could have been interesting if he had - in those days, that was REAL exposure!

Lloyd played steel on McCartney's single "Sally G" shortly after the Beatles broke up and he went off on his own. I think it was a B side and I don't know what the A side was.

The A side was "Junior's Farm".

Lloyd told me that aftyer doing "Sally G" Paul said he was going to be starting a band and wanted to know if Lloyd wanted to go out on tour.
Lloyd was pretty tied up with studio work at that time, and just said that he couldn't take the time away. No money was mentioned. Paul said he understood Lloyd's situation.
I believe that a monetary amount was mentioned AFTER the tour was done ("It was a great tour. Sorry you weren't there. I would have paid you $xxxx.")
I believe it was a good amount of dosh. If money HAD been mentioned Lloyd might have done it... and lots might be different.

When I was playing in Japan, I had the pleasure of meeting Joe English who played drums with Wings. He told me that when he was hired, Paul said the salary for drummer was $200,000 a year. He said he almost fell off his drum seat because he was working as a ranch hand for the Allman Brothers at the time. He also said that Paul paid him over $180,000 by the end of the first year. Pretty good since he joined the band in the summer!

He had nothing but good things to say about Paul. Not bad for working and practically living with the guy for about 5 years.
