? Source for Guitar Stand replacement rubber...

don't know what section to post this in so I'll put it here...I have a couple of cheap folding guitar stands that originally had something like "surgical tubing" style rubber over the tines that hold up the bottom of the axe and the tines holding the neck/headstock. this rubber has deteriorated and I would like to replace it. any ideas?

Hey Dave,

Try a hobby, surgical or lab supply house.
The DuPont brand name for high quality vinyl tubing is "Tygon". You may want to moisten the stand with water or a drop of oil before sliding the tubing on. Several diameters (id and od) are available. You'll probably need 1/4" or 3/8" or so id.Suppliers like Fisher Scientific may not sell less than 10' or so, but if you can find a local surgical supply house they might help you out. It's used as fuel line for model planes and small engines but the hobby shops may not have as large a diameter as you need.

I did this once! What a pain!
I replaced the rubber on about 150 wall mounted display brackets at the music store where I was working.
Be careful that the "new" tubing does not have a bad effect on the finish where it makes contact too! Some tubing gives off chemicals that will bubble the finish in just a short time.
If they are not really good stands, just get new one's IMHO.

I agree with Jim. I don't think it's worth the risk of ruining the finish on a guitar. Our local guitar shop has some nice folding stands for about $10. Black or chrome. Your choice.
