Virus Check

Post by Oldpicker »

Here's an easy way to detect and stop e-mail virus's.
Add a new e-mail address to your address book as "AAAAAA@nowwhere.net".
This will be the first entry in your address book so if a virus gets in and tries to send a message this is the first one it will try which will fail, thus warning you of its existance and stopping it from sending any more.

This is an urban legend that circulates the 'net periodically. It does not work. As always, the only tru defense against a virus is a good anti-virus program with up-to-date definitions.

The Klez virus going around has caused this legend. It spoofs a email address from your address book. The legend is that it spoofs the first email address in the list. However, that is not true, it spoofs any address.
