Question about Internet Tapedeck 2002 XP

I was wondering if anybody else downloaded the Internet Tapedeck 2002XP from the link that was provided on the Forum not too long ago. I downloaded it while it was still available and have been experimenting with it. It's an interesting 8 track recorder and seems to work fairly well however I can't seem to convert the wav of a finished mix into a usable mp3 that I can save. I've followed the instructions for creating the mp3 but only wind up with a 12 kb file which is far too small to be an mp3. I've therefore resorted to taping my final mix and then using my Cool Edit software to record the tape and create an mp 3 this way. Anybody know if there's an alternative?

you need a mp3 encoder ...and you have one of the best if your using cool edit..are you using cool edit 2000??? you can change from wav to mp3 right in cool edit...i would stick with that

Wayne, thanks. My problem is that When I check the properties of the wav of the finished mix that's created with the Tapedeck program, it only reads 12 kb instead of 30 megs so I really don't have anything to transfer to my Cool Edit program to encode to an mp3.In other words where do I find the real wav? Obviously the 12 kb is just text.

Do you have MusicMatch jukebox? That is what I use to play mp3's and it can also convert wav to mp3 or mp3 to wav. It is real easy to use and no settings involved.

Neil, I am using the older version 1.02, without mp3 support. In that version, and probably in yours, if you look in Tools>Preferences>Locations, you will see the location of your final mixes. In mine, it is (by default) C:\MyDocuments\Mixes.

Here are links to some freeware mp3 converters. They are not nesessarily better than CoolEdit, but might be easier to use.

I really don't know why your Tapedeck won't convert if it is supposed to. Perhaps in the Tools>Preferences box there is a place to specify which encoder to use?

Mark, thanks for your reply. I do have Music Match but I also have Cool Edit which I prefer. The problem is not that I'm unfamiliar with how to encode an mp3. I can do that easily.

The problem is that when I finish making my master mix using the Tapedeck software I want to be able to create an mp3 of the finished product and I can't seem to locate the real wav that I've just finished recording in the program file.

If the playback mix that I hear after I finish recording a song is a real uncompressed PCM wav than it should read approximately 30 megabytes or if it's an mp3 it should read around 3 megs. It only reads 7.5 kilobytes indicating that it's not a real wav or an mp3. My question is where do I locate the real wav so that I can encode it to an mp3? I was hoping that someone who might have tried out this Tapedeck demo software program might know where to find where the wav is stored.

Thanks a million Tommy. By following up on what you mentioned and doing a little detective work I was able to find the wav when I typed in "mixes" into my "Find Files and Folders". I now have a 32 meg wav to work with. I'm hoping that I can now just cut and paste the wav into my Cool Edit or my CDDA encoding program and compress it to an mp3. Appreciate the help.
