PC Volume Question

I have been playing around with Polderbits program & burning some music from my multitrack to CD.
My question is why is the volume of the CD after it is burned about 1/2 of what it should be when played even when the CD player is at Max volume?
Should the computer volume for line in recording be set high or low when recording to the PC & volume levels adjusted using the sliders on the recording program to get higher volums on the burned CDs

Rick, are you certain you are recording your wave files with as much volume as possible without distortion? You may be deceived as the output volume of your soundcard may be very close to the max while the input level being recorded is not all that high. Just a thought.

Rick, I use Polderbits, and have not experienced, or at least not noticed such an extreme volume difference as you describe. It does seem that the level indicator in Polderbits is not perfectly in sync with my soundcard...that is, in my case, the system vu-meter might be peaking slightly before it shows on the Polderbits meter. If you open your system's mixer, and Polderbits at the same time, you can watch both meters and get a handle on how close they are calibrated. Maybe Polderbits is showing your recording levels higher than what they really are. If this is the case, I would trust the system vu-meter. At least on my system, the system mixer's controls will adjust Polderbits, and vice versa....they are linked.

Another thought....when you record, and then play back the file before burning, leaving the monitor volume untouched, how is the volume? What I mean is, is the volume loss happening during recording, or burning? (in which case maybe you can adjust normalization in your burn program)[This message was edited by Tommy Mc on 17 June 2002 at 12:42 PM.]

Hay thanks Tony & Tommy,, I did get the volume problem worked out . I was setting the PC line in volume too low when recording. I had the PC speakers up too high so I jusy turned them completely off so as not to distract me when recording to Polderbits. But a big thanks anyway friends
