BIAB Question

Post by John O Keeffe »

I recently downloaded BIAB "Styles" thinking they would be in some kind of midi format.
I thought CalkWalk might open them but it didn't.
Are BIAB files exclusive to its own programme??
If I saved these files to disk would a GM player play them??

Yes, BIAB files are stored and transferred in MIDI. I transfer my BIAB arrangements to an Alesis Data Disk unit via midi and it has no problem receiving the data and storing it. I don't know anything about CakeWalk but the files sure are GM compatible. Image

Styles (style files with the extension .sty) can be used only in the Band In A Box program.

Its amazing that Cakewalk didn't open them but come to think of it as I write I do recall that they were styles.
So if this is the case i guess the midi player on my Keyboard wouldn't play them either.
It has a programme on it for "Patterns" where styles can be loaded on to the keyboard and played like the regular backing thats already on the keyboard!!I wonder would this work?

No, the format for BIAB files is proprietary. BIAB can export MIDI, but its regular style and song formats aren't similar to the MIDI format. No other program or device understands BIAB files.
