FILE SEARCH not responding

Post by Chip Fossa »

Hello Gang,
While I haven't checked out 'other' files,
my files in TABLEDIT [TE] can not be located
in SEARCH FOR FILES OR FOLDERS.

All places to search-in come up empty. This
kind of thing started a while ago, but I didn't pay it no mind at the time [it was only a file or two]. However, today I was working within TABLEDIT tab program [TE has been discussed here on the Forum in many instances] and going thru new downloaded files. It makes the task easier if I know I have the dang file on-board already.

Do you all think this could be a problem with TE or Windows [ME] or both?

Thanks all...ChipsAhoy

PS - I know this whole thing is screwy, because I typed in known files, and they did not get found.

Hi Chipper-- The files may not be located where you think or you may be entering the 'Find' data incorrectly.

Not knowing exactly what you're looking for, or where, here's some general tips.

Set the 'Look in' to point to the ROOT folder of the drive to be searched. (eg, C Image and check-mark 'include subfolders'.

If you know the file Extension/Type(the part of the name to the right of the dot), key in *. and the Type. If you know what the names begin with, key that in followed by *. and the Type. Similarly, use an asterisk for some or all of the file Type.

For example, if the file names all begin with 'MY' and are of Type 'TED', search for MY*.TED or locate all files with Type 'TED' by keying in *.TED.

If you know the date range during which the files were created, enter the file name template and then click the 'Date' tab to limit the search to that range. --Everett

Thanks Ev, for those tips. Last night, strangely, the 'search' was working. Now
this morning, it isn't, again. I'm gonna print out your suggestions, and fool around with those. Thanks again, Ev...I appreciate
it.

Chip--When you first open the 'Find files' window, the 'look in' will be set to the currently active drive/folder. So, if the files were in the TablEdit folder AND you did the search WHILE that folder was open, the files would show up. If you are in some other folder when you do the 'Find' (and don't change the 'look in') the files might not show. --Everett
