Ernie, just an opinion, I have had very good luck with the Memorex 700MB disks , they come in several pack sizes( 30 pack for $20 ) and thin line cases as well. My good friend uses Verbatim and is always giving me disks that he burns. Not sure if one is better than the other but both seem to be pretty high end and not that expensive all things considered. If you can get into a high end brand for .60 or .70 cents each with a case I think thats pretty good ! Most disks now will come with the 1X to at least 16X speed spec. By the way, I think everyone refers to the cheap disks as "Store Brands" and off brands that give you a 100 pack for about $25 - $30. Memorex, Sony, Verbatim, Teac,etc.. those are the common name brands and should probably be pretty consistent with each other. I have purchased 100 packs off of EBAY , no brand name, and have found that the burn side coating chips off on several of them . Maybe thats why they are cheap !

Most CD-R's are OK, there are the "cheapies" and avoid them. The only brand name I've had problems with were PNY. Mostly I use the Bulk Verbatim 16X that I buy at Sam's Wholesale Club or I've got some Memorex and I haven't had any problem with them.
As far as RW disks, ???. The only ones I've used are some Memorex that I got one Christmas. Been using them for a while with no problems.
Thanks, guys! I've seen the Memorex ones at fairly reasonable prices. Also, since I had a couple of no-name VHS tapes that were, shall we say, crap, I haven't bought any no-name products. Saves time and money.

Ernie,
I second, or third or whatever the comments made on Memorex.
I use the Memorex CD-RW, 700MB and the Imation CD-R, 700MB disks. I have had no problem with either one. Used both disks in my CDRW in my Dell 'puter and in my Plextor 12/10/32 external used with my VS recorder.

I've had good luck with Maxell, TDK, Sony, Memorex. Had bad luck (and know of some others that did also) with Imations.
[This message was edited by Jim Phelps on 03 February 2002 at 04:20 PM.]

I got the drive from Buy.com at a reasonable price. They have Memorex CD-R 80 100-PK Spindle on sale for $29.08. I don't know if they're "audio" or "data" though.

I'm pretty sure that "audio" and "data" disks are integrally the same. Since digital audio is by definition data on a disk, you should be able to use one for either purpose.
My brother has a stand alone CD burner which we connect directly to the mixing board and burn every night we play. If you put a data disc in it, it won't recognize it. I think it even says, not audio disc. He has to get audio blanks.

Internal PC burners will work with "data" blanks. But, standalone audio CD units require the "audio" CD blanks. There is a coded track on the audio blanks and if it's not there the burner will not work.
Jack you are correct about the stand alone units requiring "audio" CD/R's, at least for the consumer products.
However, I have a Tascam stand alone burner (not a dubbing unit) that I use standard CD/R's. This is the unit I use to record the ISGC each year. It works great.
