Question for Jack Stoner
Jack ,
I only run Live Update and Anti-Virus program from Norton's Systems 2000 I installed months ago . I don't use anything else --too powerful -- in that program .
My problem , all of a sudden , is that I get
a prompt box that there is an internal error
in Live Update which don't allow me to go in and get the most recent virus definitions which is a must to keep up with .
Unfortunately , I do not have the c.d. that came with the Systems 2000 so I can't go and
reload the Live Update as I am prompted to do by this internal error message when I try to start Live Update .
I have tried to go to Norton's web site and download the definitions and that don't work either because when I try , it puts me right back to Live Update which I cannot open.Or requires a subscription to Live Update that already exsists on my computer.
My definitions are about three weeks old . I am a bit worried that I'm getting behind . I never open attachments anymore but still I understand there a certain viruses floating around that do not attach them selves to attachments . (?? )
My question is - is there a way to get definitions downloaded from Norton by by- passing Live Update ? Or is there a way to go to Norton's web and get definitions without getting prompted back to Live Update?
My subscription to Live Update is paid until next year so that is not the problem .
Can you give me some suggestions ?? After the New Year is started , I plan to put the computer in the shop , have it completely cleaned out and Windows 98 re-installed .I have already purchased Norton Live Update program 2002 wich I'll have installed at the same time so my problem should go away . In the meantime , I really need to update these definitions to get them current .
Your help and good advise is always appreciated . Sorry for the long post !!!

John,
I had a similar problem. Live update wasn't compatible with another program I installed - Zip Magic. Anyway, I was able to update my definations by downloading them from the link below and then installing them from safe mode.
Not sure if this will help, but it might be worth a try. This is the link to Norton's website that I used:
Good Luck...
