MP3 files

Post by Joe Delaronde »

Approximately how many MP3 files can a CD hold? Just a ballpark figure.
Thanks

Joe,
I just bought an mp3/cd player. I converted all of my steel guitar cd's to mp3 format. I ripped the mp3's at 256kps which is excellent quality but also is a large file size (average 4 or 5 mb per song). I got about 130 to 140 songs on 1 cd. If you ripped them at a smaller bitrate you could possibly double that. The "industry standard" is 128kps. Some people claim that 128kps is cd quality but I STRONGLY differ. 192kps is a very good compromise if you are really worried about squeezing a lot onto a disk. I converted over 100 steel guitar cd's and squeezed them down to 11 disks.
Hope this helps.

About 650 MB worth. Image

A typical song gets compressed down to about 5 MB or so (but depends on the quality settings, as well as the length of the song).

So, I'd say about 130.
