working virus

Post by Frank Parish »

I've been dealing with a working virus and may have got it out but is there any serious software to completely eliminate this thing? This is the W32.Hybrisdll@mm virus. It comes in the form of an attachment to your e-mail called "The Hand". Don't open this or you'll be sorry. I downloaded a few different programs and so far so good but I thought that a few days ago too. One of our forumites David Mullis has been helping me and he seems to know about this thing I've got.

Either the McAfee or Norton site should have info on removing the virus. However, if you had an up to date virus program active it would have cought the virus attachement and wouldn't have let you open it.

Never, Never run on line without an up to date virus program. It's a must anymore. And a personal firewall program is becoming a must have program too.

Frank-- That virus would have been caught by PC-Cillin since Oct/Nov last year.

They offer a free on-line scan, as well. You probably will have to replace file WSOCK32.DLL (in the Windows\System folder) as the virus has likely modified it. There might also have been a Windows Registry key added that attempts to open the virus at Windows startup. Read about it at

Everett,
I ran that program through it last evening and it says it got it cleaned up. The Norton anti-virus tools spotted the virus but failed to clean it out of the system. Right now the system seems to be working fine but we'll see. Thanks guys
[This message was edited by Frank Parish on 24 August 2001 at 10:37 PM.]
