Downloadable Windows Start Diskettes

Post by Jack Stoner »

There have been several posts on here about having problems booting a PC, and not having a bootable "startup" disk.
You should make a Windows "startup" diskette and keep it for emergencies.

To create the startup diskette, click on "My Computer" and then "Control Panel" then "Add/Remove Programs". When the panel comes up, click on the "startup disk" tab and follow the directions.

For those that do not have a startup disk and can't get a PC started, there is a web site that has downloadable starup disks that MAY work. They have downloads for different versions of windows, however, even if you have Win95 you should download the Win98 disk as it has real mode drivers for CD's and may allow you to recover (if nececessary) from a CD.
It is www.bootdisk.com

Hmmm... y'know there's something peculiar about that statement, I just can't put my finger on it... Image

Actually, thanks for the tip, Jack. I'm gonna go make one myself now, while my computer IS working!

Jim, did someone we know recently have this problem? Image

Actually there are a lot of people in the same boat. If one of my clients, that I have not made a startup disk for, has a problem I always take my "stock" diskette with me.

The article about this and the site was in the Computer "help" section of the local newspaper. After I looked at the site, I decided to put a notice here about it.

Yea, I've often wondered how one can reach an internet address, with a computer that isn't running???????????????? DUH !!!!!!

JIM COHEN;
I received your CD today. I am VERY IMPRESSED. Thank you.

I hope that your Wifes system is still running smoothly. If not, you know the phone number.

Jack;
Could you please post some more of your favorite sites like the one above??
Thanx.

Obviously if someone's PC died they couldn't get on the internet, but they could have a friend get it for them.

I don't have much in the way of hardware/software help sites. I ran across this one in the local paper.
