Hiss" On Recordings

Post by Roy Thomson »

When I record to my Roland VS-840 the playback is "clean".
But when I transfer it to my computer via digital cable (SPDIF) I get this "Hiss" noise
with the music. Altho slight, it is somewhat annoying.
I use a Sound Blaster Platinum sound card.
Can anyone offer an answer to my problem?
Thank you for your time.

Try an analog signal into your Soundblaster and see if it is clean or noisy like the digital signal. May help to isolate the problem.

Well Roy, THUMB of us have trouble finger-picking too, but we don't get on here and CRY about it!! (just kidding)
Make sure the mic isn't toggled on at the SB mixing panel--also check the treble and bass sliders on the SB mixer..or reduce input level and adjust SB mixer-or vice versa.

Roy:
I also use SB Live Platinum and have found that recording with bass and treble set to flat response gives the best results, especially when recording from a record player. That may or may not help with your particular problem, but is worth a try. I also have my mic toggled off, as Cairo suggests.
