Compressing an mp3 file using WinZip?

Post by Jim Cohen »

I've tried to compress an mp3 file using WinZip and it only compressed it by a stinkin' ONE PERCENT!! I could not seem to find any control function in WinZip that allows me to set the degree of compression and the online help doesn't mention it. Anybody got any ideas to help?
thx,
jc

That's 'cause MP3 files are already compressed! Image It'd be like trying to compress a zip file. Sometimes the files can even end up larger due to the overhead of the compression algorithm itself.

Lately I have been using a program called Easy CD DA extractor encoder/decoder
I compress raw wavs into WMA (Windows Media Audio) Format....I can compress a 30mg raw wave into a less than 200k file...you lose some quality however if the file is played back on Winamp(free Player),you have an onboard EQ to enhance the quality of compressed wavs in real time... Bill in Vegas
