Value of tone pots for steel guitar "Wah" effect
I have forgotten the value and the taper mod used for tone pots in lap steels and such when you want to use the tone control for an exaggerated "Wah" effect. I know the standard tone pot value is 250K, audio taper, usually a .02 cap. What have you guys experimented with?
Single coil and humbuckers too. Difference in values??
How about 1 Meg. audio taper pot with a .05 cap.

In another thread I wrote:
I have a 1 meg pot in my Gibby Grande Console. Works well.
A previous owner cut a narrow slot in the top of the guitar, and put a lever onto the pot. So I don't have to rotate anything. Just move the lever back and forth. There is a small switch to take it out of the circuit.

1Meg. Linear w/.05uf cap. were the Original components for the tone on Fender Dual-Pros and T-8 Customs, along with a 250K Audio pot for the Volume. By at least ’57, Sho-Bud was using 500K Audio pots for both volume and tone w/.05uf cap.

It should be audio taper, the value of the pot isn't really the issue, but the value of the cap in relation to the value of the pot. The original pot on my Bigsby is 100K, the one on the vol/tone pedal is 250K and I have a 1meg pot on my Wright Custom, but I can't remember the cap values on them. All work just like they should though. I remember trying out few different valued caps with the 1meg pot before finding the correct "boo-wah".
Edit: I checked the cap on the Bigsby and it's a .05 mfd with a 100K pot.
[This message was edited by Jussi Huhtakangas on 19 October 2005 at 10:57 AM.]
