Wireless Router/Hum

Post by Lawrence Lupkin »

This sounds completely assinine, but it probably won't be the stupidest thing I've come up with. Can the presence of a wi-fi connection cause amp hum?

Thanks!

Now there's an interesting question.
Unrelated, or is it?.....last night I played a fashion show (poor poor me, having to play while half nekkid young things walked around seductively). during a break some nasty noises started coming out of my amp. I whirled around in dismay to find the bassist standing next to my amp dialing on his cell phone. Serious proximity in this case but it does make you wonder about other stuff in the ether...

How come I never get called for those gigs? Image

Seriously, though. Figure a Wi-fi connection has a 200 foot range. What is it actually shooting out? I can see electromagnetic waves having an effect. Even a cell phone.

This stuff is beyond me. Back to half-nekkid girls. Remember Jon, if you are feeling the sniffles coming on, keep my number handy.

Hum? Usually not. There is a possibility for all other sorts of noises, though! Digital stuff is wrought with EMI (electro-magnetic interference). Put an AM radio next to your computer or CRT, and you'll see what I mean. Image

I know the wifi router (D-Link DI-624) in the shop doesn't seem to interfere with the amplifiers 12-20 feet away.

However, my new cellular phone and Bluetooth headset do when they get too close to the amps.

Sure was! Yeah. That oughta keep out that burning rain stuff. I'd sure hate to have to dress these mental images in burkas.

I'd say that John's post covers the question pretty well even though it's off topic.

But did you have to show ID at the door?

Thought my green mohair suit would get me in but they still wanted to see some ID. Jerks.

Well I shall speak out loud and (as usual) trusted this crowd to give me good info. I went and unplugged the thing and it didn't make a bit of difference.

Perhaps my amp hum is caused by Sins commited previously.

The info avaliable from this forum certainly makes for a sweetheart of a deal.

Thanks!

The amp was responding to the environmental influences and electrical activity in the room and it wasn't the router. More likely an overabundance of male brainwaves.
