speaker upgrade for Blazer 158?

Post by Jackie Anderson »

The Blazer 158 has nice features for a small amp, but it seems like mine could profit from a better speaker. Whether I use it for steel or 6-string, it sounds a bit "blah" compared to my other small amps. I don't know what's in it now, but it isn't blue and it certainly is no "marvel." Any suggestions for an 8" 4-ohm speaker that might make this a better low-volume steel amp?

HI Jack - That interests me - I have a Rage 158 (one of the newer ones) with the blue marvel speaker in it and I think it sounds great for a practice amp - What othes do you have that you think sound better??

I have a couple of old Gibson tube amps -- a BR-6 and a BR-4 -- and a Danelectro Dirty Thirty. I love the Gibsons, although they are getting a little hummy, and I hate to risk taking them out much any more. Even the Dano sounds better than the Blazer, within its volume range, but it lacks the tone-shaping controls.
