Sho-Bud split coil pickup ?s
As a result of recent dealings I have a Pro-1 coming to me with a split coil pickup. The switch on the endplate taps the c.20K pickup to a lesser impedance (I'll measure it when I get it). What in your opinion is the benefit to having this option? Reason for asking: I have a friend who is willing to trade me a straight single coil for it with some cash to boot. Thanks.

Not meaning to turn this thread into another love-fest for Jerry Wallace (he deserves it but he probably doesn't need it), I have three of those tapped Sho-Bud PUs. I replaced the one on my Pro I with a TT, and like it much better than either choice on the Sho-Bud. TTs have a lot more clarity or "definition" or "string separation" than the full S-B winding, and a lot more "body" than the low-k tap, which is definitely weak and "thin" (calling it "Fendery" doesn't do justice to Fenders -- there you have treble with balls). Now I can't decide whether to get Jerry to rewind my other two Sho-Bud PUs, or just replace them with all-new TTs.
