Lexicon LXP-1 LXP-5 or LXP-15

Which of these do you guys prefer that have tried them all. Does the ProFex 11 seem to compare at all? Does anyone use a Stereo Steel and a DPC-750 or 1000 amp with these? Also what is the best way to hook it up? I have a friend that has a LXP-15 i may try also. Thanks for your help. Gary P.S. I have access to a LXP-5 but i'll need a LXP-1 and a controller if anyone knows of any.

Gary,down threw the years i tryed all the steel amps that Peavey made, the new 1000 amps and the 750 dpc rack amp with the profex II with the 115-E cabinet, with the 1501 black widows, and the best tone and sound that i ever had for the steel guitar is what i,m useing now, i,m useing two old LTD-400 amps, the one like the Nashville-400 amp.the LXP-1 and the LXP-5 for my effects, and i must say they are the best to give you the true tone of your steel, i play a Zum steel with the George-L TPP P/U this combination is a perfect match to give you the old Emmons push-pull tone and sound of the sixties, which to me, is the best tone for the true tone of the steel guitar. Buddy Emmons, i understand used this combination a long time.

Gary,
I agree with Joe that the Lexicon effects (especially reverb) are excellent, but BEWARE: The LXP-5 (only one I have) is not easy to program and the manual is not well written. I use an LXP-5 in my studio rack JUST FOR REVERB. If that's how you plan to use it, you may not have many problems, but many of the newer fx units are far easier to work with.

Hope this info is useful. If you don't need to use it as a multi-effects unit and create and change patches often it's a great box.

Gary, Larry is right on the LXP-5 owners book, it don,t give a laymans term on how to get your delays and reverb, but Lexicon service rep. will E-mail you how to do all this Ect.I use the LXP-1 threw one amp for my reverb and use the LXP-5 for my delay threw the other amp. i use a slap-back delay with added reverb on the LXP-5,John Hughey use this the same way except he got his LXP-5 with a 1-2-3-count fading out on the forth count and he don,t use delay all the time on fast tunes he will set the LXP-5 to by-pass and will have then one wet and one dry.

Most of the cool stuff on LXP-5 cannot be done from the knobs on the panel; you need to send system-exclusive commands from your computer (or something). I used to do that on the Atari ST. Did you think you would never use BASIC again?

If I remember correctly from my Sam Ash days, you can't change the parameters (other than the Mix, Tone, Input & Output cntrls) on the LXP-1 & LXP-5 without a proprietary remote control (which costs a coupla hunnert bucks); Earnest's post about computer cntrl is a ??? to me--I just don't know.

These things are pretty much presets-only, unless you get that add'l remote. Those Lex 'Verbs do sound good, tho.....

That's right; I forgot that Lex used to sell a remote control for those things. I used to set up the LXP-5 at home by sending sysex to it from the Atari ST, which is cheaper if you already own a computer.

You should check the newer MPX 500 from Lexicon. If you run stereo it sounds much better than the olden LXP models which had just an inbuilt stereo simulator. If you try the MPX models you will be surprised. I don't use much effects, only reverb, or delay. From time to time some chorus. All these are in the MPX 500 and it sounds great both in stereo and mono. I don't think the MPX cost more then LXP 15?
