webb amps

can anyone give me some thoughts on the new webb amps?? There aren't any in my neck of the woods to try out....thanks tom

My Webb is a few years old and I did not buy it new. -a great sounding amp. Cabinet is really sturdy, relatively quiet operation, lots of headroom, responsive EQ section, lovely basic voicing in the "hybrid" selection of EQ, and a dandy assortment of colored lights on the control panel. The amp is a 614-E, but I replaced the E with an old JBL D 130 which I prefer. Lots of guys would be just as happy or happier with and "E". I use the Webb on all gigs and have recorded with it too. I believe also that the design and manufacture of this amp has changed relatively little through all of its' years in production.Production may be a bit of an misrepresentation insofar as I don't think that there is a deep inventory of product in stock at any given time. Prorate the cost/quality/time and I think the Webb is a great musical tool. Call'em up on the phone and talk to the cat to get a better grip on the features and so forth of the amp. Their web site is pretty good too.

thanks to you all for your thoughts on the Webb amps...Yes I listen to Tommy White on Sat. night, on my way back from my gig...GREAT sound...J.Webb told me that Tommy does not use anything except his Webb to get that sound...Webb, here I come....tom

When an amp sells for 1750.00, there must be a reason, There's been some Webb,s on Buy&Sell for 6 or 7 hundred that I feel should have been grabbed up fast! Just the best sound out anywhere! >au

The main reason they sound so "friggin"
good is that the preamp section uses
FET type transistors. They're current
dependent (like tubes) instead of voltage
dependent like the regular transistors and
silicon IC chips found in other amps.
The birch plywood in the cabinet also
contributes (instead of the particle board
found in some other amps).

Hi Tom:
All of the amps that are made today are really good, high quality amps.
For me, the Webb is the amp that best suits my style of playing, be that what it may. It's true, Webb amps are very expensive, however, if I consider all the money that I spent on other amps while trying to get the sound I wanted, it would certainly surpass the price of a new Webb amp.
When I started playing thru the Webb, most everybody including band members, commented on how clear, punchy, full, round, non piercing highs etc. the sound was. Further, the Webb amps are the only amp that have kept their value.
Now with all that said when it comes to service you may get frustrated because the Webb service is the pits. They take for ever if not longer to get back to you and service is certainly their down fall. I called them over 6 mos. ago and they have still not responded and all I wanted was a remote reverb. If you follow other posts you will see similar comments.
Peavey on the other hand will go out of their way to make you happy. Mike Brown called me at 01:00 A.M. in the morning, his time, with a return call that was not even an emergency. How's that for service? I have not dealt with any other manufacturers so I don't know what their service is like.
