Ernie Ball volume pedal problem

Post by tim duvall »

I noticed that my volume pedal wasn't working right so I took a look at it. when I would work the pedal, the brass knob wasn't turning. When I pulled the string a little to make it a little tighter, it worked fine. Now my question. Has anyone else had this problem? what did you do? Is the spring that connects the string from the back of the pedal to the knobs bad and in need of replacement? or is there a simple solution to this?

Tim,
I looked over an old EB pedal of mine and what I did when I had a string slipping problem is wrap a rubberband around the brass ring that the string goes around. I then wrapped the string around that. This gave the string something to grab on to.

If there is any boing left in the spring it is probably fine.

From your post it looks like the simplest solution would be to retie the string so it is a little tighter.

Tim,

Also make sure that whatever (set screw?) holds the brass barrel to the pot shaft is not loose. Your pulling the string tight could be just enough to bind a loose barrel to the shaft and turn the pot.
